DMA Reverts to PIO Mode

The steps suggested in the MS KB article linked in the above page do not help you fix the system.

Make certain you check the IDE driver for the system and if the system is using the Intel Application Accelerator (Intel's IDE driver of late, file name IdeChnDr.SYS) just uninstall the Intel driver using add/remove programs to return the system to the MS driver, which should fix the problem, and then you can reinstall the Intel driver if you so desire. The MS protected mode driver file is atapi.sys (there is another file storprop.dll or some such file also, so if atapi.sys appears as one of the driver files then the MS driver is in use). Any attempt to uninstall the Primary IDE device alone will create a non-bootable situation and cause a blue screen stop 0x0000007b error. You may not be able to boot in safe mode to uninstall the Intel IDE driver after receiving the stop error.
