Open Microsoft's Disk Operating System, or MS-DOS using the "Start" menu. Type "netstat-b" in the prompt field. This will tell you what ports are available and what programs are connecting to the Internet so you can spot strange connections. Look for activity in ports 49152 to 65535, which are seldom used for legitimate purposes.

2Type "tracert" and the Internet Protocol, or IP, address of any suspicious connection listed in the DOS prompt. You'll get a list of all the connected computers between you and that suspiciously connected machine. Look for an Internet Service Provider name, commonly located second from last on the list.

3Enter the suspicious IP address followed by letters "DNS" in the DOS prompt to convert the IP address into letters called a hostname. Occasionally, a hacker can prevent you from getting a correct hostname.

Step
4Check the end of the hostname for a country code, such as ".UK" for United Kingdom. Using this method you can at least discover the hacker's country of origin.

Step
5Use the hacker's email address to trace him. Sometimes you can obtain a user's IP address from their email header by selecting "Preferences" and then "Full Header's Visible." In addition, many websites can help you find someone's IP address from an email address.
