USB ports do not detect anything on my laptop.

hi mates..

my USB ports are not detecting anything... usb flash drive, mouse,printer kuch bhi detect nahin ho raha.. yeh sub achank hua, pheley sub thik kaam kar raha tha, lekin all of sudden while i was working (was just composing an email) i smelled somthing like burning and mein ne forunn he laptop ko switched off kar diya.... jub thorri der ke badd restart kiya to USB mouse and other USB devices detect nahin ho rahein hein? Baaqi computer normally theek kaam kar raha lekin sirf USB ports ne kaam karna chorr diya....

optical mouse plugged in kiya iss the light bhi jalti hey lekin windows iss ko detect nahin kar hey aur likewise USB card-reader plug-in karney ket bahd iss ke indactor light bhi jalti hey lekin windows iss ko detect nahin karr rahi hey?

can any expert advise what has gone wrong and how to fix this up.
