Dear Friend's
Despite an erroneous news earlier that renowned poet Ahmed Faraz had died in a Chicago hospital, the news right now is that Ahmed Faraz is still alive, but not at all well, struggling for his life in a Chicago hospital.
CHICAGO: Renowned poet Ahmed Faraz is alive and still under medical treatment at a local hospital here, said his physician Tahir Rohail, brushing aside the earlier report of his death aired by state TV. He said Ahmed Faraz is seriously ill at a hospital in Chicago where necessary medical treatment is being provided to him.
aaNkh se duur na ho dil se utar jayega
waqt ka kya hai guzarata hai guzar jayega
itana maanuus na ho Khilvat-e-Gham se apanii
tuu kabhii Khud ko bhii dekhe ga to Dar jayega
tum sar-e-raah-e-wafaa dekhate rah jaoge
aur wo baam-e-rafaaqat se utar jayega
zindagii terii ataa hai to ye jaane waalaa
terii baKhshiish terii dahaliiz pe dhar jayega
Dubataye Dubataye kashtii to ochhala de duuN
maiN nahiN koii to saahil pe utar jayega
zabt laazim hai magar dukh hai qayaamat kaa 'Faraz'
zaalim ab ke bhii na royegaa to mar jayega
A great poet indeed. He was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz by Musharraf in 2004, and in 2006 he returned it after becoming disenchanted with the brutal dictatorship of Musharraf and his policies. These are his words:
"My conscious will not forgive me if I remained a silent spectator of the sad happenings around us. The least I can do is to let the dictatorship know where it stands in the eyes of the concerned citizens whose fundamental rights have been usurped. I am doing this by returning the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (civil) forthwith and refuse to associate myself in any way with the regime..." a statement issued by the poet.
