You should have selected the third option.

    1) How much partitions did you have?
    2) Which data is missing?

If you are looking for your data in C:/ Drive, it is formatted as you had selected option (2). i.e. to replace Windows 7 which means the new OS will erase old data and install new OS on your disk. I think it might have formatted whole your disk. While installing Linux (Ubuntu or any other), trick lies only in this step where most of the people lost their data.

Br. Ubuntu only erased your windows partition c, if you only selected option 2. only way to install windows and install some recovery software to recover data, next time if you want to install Ubuntu, just make a little re-search on Google to understand, how to install dual boot, clean install, and alongside windows, Ubuntu can install in USB or external hard drive as well. I am using since its version 10.04 and never had any issue, only need to learn and careful while installing this OS. Good Luck
