    What are .SDC Files
These downloads contain all of the files and folders from the original CDs in non-ISO format. You can run the program directly from you computer or burn them to CD.

    How To Burn CDs
These instructions are associated with the downloading of Microsoft Software, in accordance with the Academic Alliance agreement between DVC and Microsoft. Using the BFL-109 lab to download, you can copy the downloaded software to CD-R in the lab. Bring your own blank 32x (or better) CD-Rs.

When you begin downloading, a small "download manager" file gets transferred to your PC. Run the download manager to get the software. The advantage of the download manager is that it can be stopped and restarted, picking up where it left off. The download manager prompts for a folder it can use to store the downloaded files. Use c:\temp, or some other convenient folder that has at 1GB of free space. When the download completes, you may be prompted to start the installation process right away. If you are not ready to do so, just close the window, so that you can install later, or copy the files to a CD for installation on another computer.

There are two types of downloads -- (1) files ending in _ISO.scd (like Windows XP), and (2) files ending in .sdc (like Visual Studio 6). There are separate instructions for using each of these types:

    Files Ending In _ISO.sdc:
These are CD disk images. Use Roxio Easy CD Creator to create a CD from this image. Start Roxio like this: Start->Program Files->Adaptec->Easy CD Creator. On the Select A Project display, choose Make A Data CD->Data CD Project. On the Roxio program screen, use the File->Record CD From CD Image menu command. In the popup "file open" screen, set Files Of Type to .iso, and navigate to the downloaded file in c:\temp, which will have been changed to a name ending in .iso. Once selected, insert a blank CD-R in the PC and click the Start Recording button. The burning process should take a few minutes. Once completed, you will have a bootable CD.

    Files Ending In .sdc:
These are files that can be used for installation directly from the SETUP.EXE program, or copied to a CD for installation at a later time on another computer. Use Roxio Easy CD Creator to create a CD, like this: Start->Program Files->Adaptec->Easy CD Creator. On the Select A Project display, choose Make A Data CD->Data CD Project. On the Roxio program screen, locate the the downloaded files in the upper half of the display. They will have been expanded into a folder in the c:\temp folder, with a name matching the name of the software downloaded. Select all of the files and folders in this folder, and use the "Add" button to display them in the project window in the lower half of the display. Then insert a blank CD-R in the PC and click the "Record" button. The burning process should take a few minutes. Once completed, you will have an auto-run CD. (Note that some CDs that are part of a set will not have their own SETUP.EXE file -- rather, the installation process for the 1st CD in the set will prompt for the CD to be inserted, if and when needed.)
