how vista and xp can be formatted,Want help

Hello Dear,

I am pakistani living here in Austria. I have a Laptop which i have purchased from the market like Bara Market in pakistan.the laptop model is HP pavilion Dv9000 Microsoft vista installed on it is password protected and xp is running without password but i want to format the whole windows and then want to install Windows Xp after erasing all data. Please help me in this context because i am in need of the laptop for my studies.

if u have the cd rom
buy a windows xp's bootable cd ..
and install the new fresh copy Microsoft Windows.

but when i install the xp from bootable xp cd it will not detect the harddisk
