A housewife has beaten over 50 entries with her painful investment experience to win the top prize in this year’s “My Investment Story” competition.

Ms Annie Lok recounted how she sold a snack shop she and her husband had been running for their entire life for over $ 300,000 but lost it all after she was persuaded by her cousin to invest the money in shares which eventually became penny stocks when the market turned last year.

The money was intended to pay for the tuition fees of her son who was entering a well-known overseas university.

Ms Lok, together with nine other winners, will share their investment stories at an award presentation ceremony tonight to be hosted by the Chairman of the SFC, Mr Eddy Fong (Note1).

“The competition is a continued effort by the SFC to promote investor education. Through experience sharing, we hope the competition will help promulgate a healthy investment attitude and raise the public awareness of the associated risks before making investment decisions,” Mr Fong said.

“The winning stories provide some very useful lessons as to how gaining product knowledge, good risk management and proper attitudes toward investing can help make sound investment decisions,” he added.

The competition is organized jointly by the SFC and its media partners - Commercial Radio One and Sing Tao Daily. The winners were selected by a panel of judges.

Winners will share their investment experiences on Commercial Radio One programme “CrossTrade” every Tuesday and Thursday starting from 26 August. Winning entries will also be published in the Investment Weekly Magazine of Sing Tao Daily from the week of 25 August and on the SFC’s InvestEd website.
