I need some open source program?

Hello Expert,
I need your help because I have to submit assignment in my university about open source program. My teacher told me that you have to find some open source program and analyze it to make user friendly and add some features and make report and submit it. I am looking for some simple open source program but I couldn't fine. Please help me to find it and make report. I would be thankful
