format laptop with windows xp

i have laptop and xp is loaded through build process. When i want to reinstall xp @ home again freshly it wont let me install as earlier xp is installed in network environment. i get pxe-61 check cables error when i try to install xp freshly. i removed from setup (bios) boot thru network but still not able to do so.
please advise as i how i can reinstall windows xp by formatting.

I took out the hard drive and formatted it using external hard drive case.
